Are so intelligent they are used as sheepdogs, guard dogs, police dogs, as a guide for the handicapped, in search & rescue and in the military.

Are very sceptical of strangers but are loving with their own families.

Only bark when absolutely necessary.

Are excellent with families with children and even other pets.

Really should be purchased from a reputable breeder.

Must be trained in obedience with firmness starting at a very young age.

Don't do well with angry training and instead need to be taught with firmness and love.

Who are agressive were most likely handled and trained poorly as a young puppy.

Need a specific responsibility in life to be happy.

Shouldn't be left alone for long periods of time; they need to be around people.

Are also know as Alsations.

are great trackers and can smell drugs very easily.

can smell a gas leak from a pipe that is 15 ft. under the surface.

can alert someone when there is an underground mine, and do so in time to avoid detonation.
